District Governing Board Policy Regarding Applying for Grants

Governing Board policy DDA states that grant proposals are to be approved by the Governing Board prior to submission to the funder. Policy also states that the Governing Board must accept the grant before the funds can be spent.

To make meeting grant deadlines practical, the Governing Board has authorized the District Grant Writer to apply for grants without this advance Board approval while being careful to follow all District guidelines and procedures.

What This Means for District Employees Applying for Grants

  • To comply with the above policy, anyone applying for a grant in the District’s name must first submit the grant to the District Grant Writer for prior approval.
  • Submitting a draft at least one week before the application deadline will ensure adequate time for getting the approval in time.
  • We are here to help! Ask for grant assistance and suggestions for strengthening your proposal early in the process.
  • If you receive a grant, contact the District Grant Writer for assistance in placing the grant on the next Board agenda for approval.
